Orange is unusual in that many of the homes in its Old Town District were built prior to 1920; whereas many other cities in the region demolished such houses in the 1960s, Orange decided to preserve them. A small incorporated community of Villa Park is surrounded by the city of Orange.
The City has a total area of 27.0 miĀ² (69.9 kmĀ²), 23.1 miĀ² (59.9 kmĀ²) of which is land and 0.5 miĀ² (1.3 kmĀ²) of which is water. The total area is 1.9% water.
